    Maïz Vargas Sandoval is a multi-instrumentalist hailing from Costa Rica. He is the leader of Mal Maiz, a band based in Vermont that explores the psychedelic side of Latin music. The band is based in Burlington, Vermont, and offers a unique blend of traditional and modern styles such as cumbia, montuno, son corrido, puya, and Afro-Caribbean sounds. When they hit the stage, they bring explosive energy, sharing their heritage and culture through an unforgettable dance party experience. Space is limited. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance online here. 18 and under are free.

    Come to the Old Town Hall Monday evenings for an hour of meditation.  There is no class instruction time; just an opportunity to slow down, quiet your mind, and to enjoy the benefits of total presence.  If your practice involves listening to music please bring headphones.  Chairs are available, but feel free to bring whatever seating method you find preferable (the floor is hardwood).  Doors open at 6:50pm, quiet time runs from 7:05 - 7:50.  Admittance is $5/day; all proceeds to benefit Brookfield Community Partnership and future Old Town Hall events.

    In 2018 at the age of 57, Kathy Elkind and her husband Jim decided to take a grown-up gap year and hike the 1400 mile GR5 across the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. Walking for 98 days Kathy discovered her own wise strength and the gratifying realization that life on the trail is a lot like marriage; the hard work, the ups & downs also bring strength, wisdom & staggering beauty. Join us as Kathy & Jim share photos and stories from the adventure that became their book, “To Walk it is to see it”.

Share your talent with a friendly audience and meet like-minded individuals in a supportive and creative environment. Whether you're a seasoned performer or a first-timer, our stage is open to everyone. For those participating it is recommended that you arrive early for registration.     Melany Kahn’s children’s book, Mason Goes Mushrooming, is about a young local boy and his four-legged pal, Buddy, who go on a woodland treasure hunt for edible mushrooms through lush Vermont landscapes.<p>Melany will share excerpts of her book with us and will guide the audience on how to identify common mushrooms. There will be plenty of opportunity for Q and A and interactive mushroom identification. As a special treat, Melany will demonstrate cooking techniques to bring out the Umami flavors of a variety of cultivated and foraged mushrooms for the group to taste.

    Did you know that there are more than 350 species of bees in Vermont? And only one of them produces honey? Join Spencer Hardy from the Vermont Center for Ecostudies to learn more about these fascinating insects, particularly the small and often overlooked native bees. The interactive talk will be full of spectacular photographs, games, and fun facts. He will also discuss ways that backyard gardeners (and consumers) can help to support wild bee populations, which are currently under a wide array of threats (including from domestic honey bees).
